Downey's Take
Brent $98.82, down $1.50 (-1.5%) and WTI Crude $87.93, down $1.50 (-1.7%). Oil down on macro with US 30Yr yields hitting multi decade highs. Overnight there were skirmishes between Houthis, Saudis and Yemen. The US is allegedly providing Saudis targeting which comforts oil markets as it implies the US will not let the Houthi situation spin out of control. Separately, ahead of Nov US elections, Trump yesterday signed an executive order, “Emergency Tax Relief on Diesel Fuel,” that temporarily opens red dyed, off-road diesel to highway use and defers the federal tax on it through December 31. Net net this has no impact on physical diesel supply and is simply a small 24cent/gal tax reduction on diesel for US truckers.
Dutch TTF European nat gas up $3.15 (+4.3%) on renewed Middle East tensions supporting LNG supply risk premium.
N-Butane down $0.024 (-1.6%), Isobutane down $0.013 (-0.8%).
Propane up $0.013 (+1.5%), Ethane up $0.003 (+1.0%).

Kicker: Rabobank recommends long Brent versus the forward curve through Q4 2026 and 2027 on persistent Middle East supply risks keeping markets tight (Rabobank, Sep 30).

QatarEnergy extends force majeure on LNG to Edison and Asian buyers
World Energy News / Reuters · Mon, Oct 5, 2026
QatarEnergy extended force majeure on LNG deliveries to Italy's Edison until early December and to buyers in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India until November, as the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed following the US-Iran conflict. This adds six more cancelled cargoes for Edison, bringing the total to 35 undelivered shipments or about 4.6 bcm of gas. The extension tightens global LNG supply into winter, supporting higher TTF prices as Europe competes with Asia for alternative cargoes. Read →
