Tanker rates surging are the primary cause of widening oil price arbs globally.
Qatar linked talk of a US Iran channel is still described as alive; Iranian President Pezeshkian had called talks “meaningless” earlier in the week.
A storm in the US Gulf coast is likely to become the first Atlantic hurricane of 2026 (this has been an unusual calm Hurricane Season) within about two days and cross oil and nat gas assets. Separately, the Saudi Houthi fight keeps escalating: the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a Houthi ballistic missile aimed at Khamis Mushait, and the Houthis claimed strikes on Riyadh airport and an Aramco site.
Platinum down $54 (-3.1%), Palladium down $34 (-2.9%) and Silver down $1.13 (-1.8%), all on stronger dollar and higher Treasury yields.
Isobutane up $0.047 (+2.9%). NGLs have been making new record highs over the past week. Hormuz related due to lack of export flows there.
US Nat Gas up $0.052 (+1.7%) on cooler weather demand forecasts and lower production.

Vitol CEO flags shipping crunch, $200 oil risk
Vitol CEO Russell Hardy said the Middle East conflict has shifted from a crude crisis to a products crisis and now a shipping crisis, with roughly 12 million barrels per day of crude and 2 million bpd of refined fuels moving out of the Gulf. Tanker charter rates have turned parabolic, creating a new bottleneck even as flows increase, and without sustained shipments oil could hit $200 a barrel.

EIA raises 2026 Brent forecast to $98 on war-driven draws
The US Energy Information Administration lifted its 2026 Brent average forecast 8% to about $98 a barrel and Q4 to $105, up $14 from prior estimates, citing rapid global inventory draws and tight diesel markets from the Iran conflict. It sees Middle East shut-in output averaging 4.5 million bpd in Q4 2026 before falling to 2.7 million bpd in Q1 2027 as flows recover. US crude production is projected to hit a record 14.3 million bpd in 2027 while Brent averages $84 in 2027 as inventories rebuild.

Executives warn commercial oil stocks nearly exhausted
Industry executives at a London forum said accessible commercial oil inventories have fallen below 6 billion barrels after more than 1 billion barrels drawn since the Middle East crisis began, with US Strategic Petroleum Reserve at its lowest since October 1982. IEA preparations for a 100 million barrel crude and diesel release underscore the depleted buffer raising oil's price floor.

US natgas futures rise to one-week high on lower output
Front-month November NYMEX futures rose 1.9 cents to $3.085/MMBtu, the highest close since Sept. 25, on LSEG data showing Lower 48 output averaging 111.7 bcfd in October, down from 113.3 bcfd records in August and September. Pipeline force majeures in Kentucky, Texas and West Virginia cut daily flows toward a four-month low near 109 bcfd, while Freeport LNG feedgas ramped higher after a train returned from maintenance, lifting daily LNG intake toward 17.6 bcfd. The December-November spread narrowed to a record-low 28 cents, signaling ample winter supply despite the price gain.

US LPG exports shift toward more butane amid propane weakness
US LPG cargoes are carrying higher butane shares as exports diversify away from northeast Asia, where propane has lost steam-cracker cost advantage to naphtha and PDH margins stay negative. Energy Transfer’s Nederland terminal leads butane sendout while Enterprise and Phillips 66 facilities gain share; propane exports lag due to poor Asian petrochemical demand and China tariff issues. Record PADD 3 propane inventories persist with terminals near capacity.

TTF climbs above €76/MWh amid storage deficit.
Dutch TTF front-month futures traded up to €76.53/MWh intraday on October 7, closing near €76.50 after opening around €76.15. The gain builds on the prior session's strength as markets price in Europe's below-average storage levels heading into winter. Low Norwegian pipeline flows and competition for LNG cargoes from Asia underpin the move.

Coal rises to $152.20/t, highest since October 2024
Newcastle-linked coal prices climbed to $152.20 per tonne on October 6, up 1.47% in 24 hours and the highest level since October 2024. Tightening global supply, including a 23% year-on-year drop in Indonesian shipments in August due to production quotas and El Niño disruptions, supports the move. The IEA’s Coal Mid-Year Update 2026 links the rally to record global demand driven by higher LNG prices from Middle East disruptions.

Malaysia may allow raw rare earth exports for R&D and processing
Tarence Tan ·

Malaysia's Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry told Parliament that raw rare earth elements may be exported for research and development or processing, subject to conditions including commitments to develop local processing and value-added activities. The statement follows months of consideration amid pressure from state governments and investors, while the broader moratorium on raw exports remains in place from 2025 to 2027 to build domestic midstream capacity. This policy shift could unlock feedstock for non-Chinese supply chains while tying exports to technology transfer and local investment.
