Downey's Take
Brent down $1.52 (-1.4%) and WTI down $1.65 (-1.7%) this morning. Crude had traded intraday Thursday (yesterday) up 5% until a story broke by Reuters around 12noon NY time that US and Iranian negotiators in New York are exploring a phased path out of the war: Iran would reopen Hormuz; the US would lift its economic blockade of Iranian ports. A phased deal, not a finished agreement. Nuclear issues would likely be pushed to a later phase. Iran’s foreign minister said Tehran had given mediators a seven-day plan: if conditions are met, Hormuz would reopen at the end of that window and talks would restart. Xi at the White House told Trump that the US and Iran should go back to talks. But no public readout of the private meeting was made available.
Nat Gas down $0.110 (-3.3%) as the market cools following a big rally earlier this week.
JKM up $0.65 (+2.5%) on strong Asian LNG demand.
Wheat down $15 (-2.1%).
Corn down $10 (-1.8%) on weak export sales and advancing harvest supply.
Silver up $1.01 (+1.6%).
