Downey's Take
Brent $105, down around $1 (-1%) and WTI $102 on Saudis offering additional crude to Asian buyers via ship-to-ship transfers off Oman’s Sohar port, reducing immediate tightness from the 7-day old East-West pipeline outage (had carried 5 million bpd, 4% global supply). That pipeline outage remains the key story. Partial pipeline flows could resume in days (bypassing damaged sections) with fuller restoration in weeks. Trump-Xi summit scheduled for this day week Thurs Sep 24, 2026, at the White House. First meeting since May in Beijing. Watching for any signal of US-China coordination on Iran.
Copper up $205/mt (+1.4%) on broader base metals rebound following weeks long sell offs and long-term demand expectations from data centers and renewables.
Tin up $547/mt (+1.1%) and Lead up $22 (+1.0%), both on spot market gains amid broader base metals strength.
Coffee down $2.8 (-1.0%) on strong Brazilian exports and favorable weather for the next crop pressuring prices.
Palladium down $12 (-0.9%) on post-Fed rate hike pressure on precious metals.

Kicker: Goldman Sachs long copper, short aluminum (Dec27) on mine supply constraints for copper versus Chinese overseas supply growth for aluminum.
