Nutrien shuts Trinidad plant as US fertilizer prices climb on Hormuz risks.
Nutrien confirmed on Oct 5 an indefinite shutdown of its Point Lisas nitrogen complex in Trinidad, citing unreliable natural gas supply after a controlled idling since Oct 2025. The move removes a key ammonia and urea source for Atlantic markets while DTN data shows US retail urea at $674/t (up 13% y/y), anhydrous ammonia at $987/t (up 18%), and similar gains in DAP, MAP and potash. S&P Global links persistent price pressure to Strait of Hormuz disruptions, Chinese export curbs and a global sulfur shortage, with forecasters expecting elevated levels through 2026.

California’s carbon market changed this year, and the next governor will inherit the fallout
California’s cap-and-invest program saw major adjustments this year that the Legislative Analyst’s Office projects will halve annual auction revenue by about $2 billion while granting polluters up to $4 billion in new free permits.
